Wendell Fertig was an engineer and was living in Mindanao at the time of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. The Americans surrendered the Philippines to the Japanese, only later to come back and assist in the liberation of the county, landing first in Leyete.

When Fertig decided not to surrender to the Japanese, he lead a guerrilla group of Filipinos in a resistance. Always outnumbered and never enough supplies he never waivered in his determination.

Fertig said,
 I am called on to lead a resistance movement against an implacable enemy under conditions that make victory barely possible even under the best circumstances. But I feel that I am indeed a Man of Destiny, that my course is charted and that only success lies at the end of the trail. I do not envision failure; it is obvious that the odds are against us and we will not consistently win, but if we are to win only part of the time and gain a little each time, in the end we will be successful.[2]






We as people in the Army of God should have that same determination and zeal to conquer the territory occupied by the enemies of God. And like Caleb asked of Moses, "Give me this mountain!"

December 30, 2009 Earthquake Hits Mindanao

There was another earthquake in Mindanao on Wednesday (the US is 13 hours behind the Philippines) after having three tremors over the weekend. It was estimated to be a 5.5 centered off the coast of Mindanao nearst to Davao (see map, the earthquake is one of the three blue squares to the south. Mindanao frequently has earthquakes off their coast. The attached map from Google Earth shows recent Earthquakes in the red squares.
